Emotional Fear

“Many people are afraid of their own emotions: afraid that their pain, their love, or their cares are in fact weaknesses. They are afraid that if they ever faced these deep emotions that then they would become vulnerable, and that vulnerability would threaten to destroy them. So instead they throw it all into a bag they call ‘toughness’, where they think no one else can see it, and hoist it upon their shoulders. And as time passes, the bag grows heavier and heavier until someday the burden breaks their soul, and history repeats once more.” – Dan Thomas
